The Wager Game: A Unique Fundraising Tool

The Wager Game is a hit among players and a guaranteed moneymaker for organizations, with no out-of-pocket costs. Here’s how it works:

• Dave sets up on a short Par 3 hole (120 yards or less) with 4-5 flags cut into the green.
• Players wager against the house on making a birdie (2 strokes). With the increased odds provided by multiple holes, winners double their wager.
• In a 100-player field, there are typically 4-5 winners, many of whom donate their winnings back to the cause.

This innovative game not only boosts fundraising but also enhances the player experience. The pace of play is improved as players pick up after two shots if they haven’t won the bet. Additionally, Dave entertains with trick shots if time permits, adding an extra layer of fun to the event.

Comprehensive Event Support

Dave handles all arrangements with the host club, ensuring a seamless experience for both organizers and participants. He’s also open to engaging players with a Chipping Challenge before play or setting up a putting contest to further enrich the event.

Nelson served as the Head Professional at Century Country Club from 1976 to 2022 and is a proud member of the Metropolitan PGA Hall of Fame. He was named Metropolitan PGA Teacher of the Year in 1999 and received the prestigious PGA Bill Strausbaugh Award in 2010 for his exceptional leadership. Nelson is also a past champion of the Virginia PGA Open and the Westchester PGA — a true legend in the game.
